BCFT Ad for Baxter Bulletin This is the original ad we developed for submission to the Baxter Bulletin. Items marked in red in the images below indicate changes we had to make in order for it to be accepted by the publisher, Mrs. Betty Barker Smith, for publication. Keep in mind that this is a (handsomely) PAID ad, not an editorial piece. These changes were relatively minor, and did not detract in any great measure from our intended message, but show plainly that neither Mrs. Smith nor her "financial advisors" completely understand the issue. Her/their major objection was our inclusion of the $5.8 million payoff of the existing bond as part of the "new" debt, so we had to remove the word "new" from the first paragraph, and add an explanation to the first bullet point below it. That $5.8 million IS part of the new debt, because the school district will have to BORROW that money in order to pay off the existing bond issue. The sentence about current capacity of the schools was changed from "School administration officials admit ..." to "Our calculations show ..." because we could not find the piece of paper with that quote on it, but have other research available with numbers to back up the claim. (We were asked to provide "proof" of each one of our claims, and delivered a report folder full of documentation about 1/4" thick.) They also did not include the BCFT magnifying glass logo with our motto, "Finding the Facts." |
