Who we are(n’t)
BCFT’s policy has always been to respect our members’ personal information and not release lists of names to the media. Anyone who wishes to make their association with BCFT public is welcome to, but we don’t feel that it is our place to do so. Our position is pretty simple: if you want to know who belongs to our organization, come to a meeting — you’ll find out.
I can, however, give you a general idea of who we are NOT.
- Other than Frank, who is a member of the MH City Council, there are no current elected officials among us.
- There are no current municipal or county employees.
- There are no current school administrators, teachers or other school employees.
- We don’t all live inside MH city limits.
- We’re not all transplants from somewhere else.
- We’re not rich.
- We’re not grumpy (well, not all of us!).
- We’re not all over the age of 65.
- We’re not against giving our children/grandchildren a good education.
- We’re not “citizens against progress.”
What we ARE is concerned about how our tax dollars are spent, at all levels of government. We expect our government officials to watch every penny and make cuts when necessary to stay within the budget, to figuratively clip coupons, watch for sales, and shop around to give us the best deal possible for the tax monies we have to hand over every year.
Millions of Americans have no choice but to make those same sacrifices every day, just to keep their families afloat. Why should it be such a big deal that we expect our local government entities to do the same?
